God has been so faithful to give us strength and peace at this time.
The Dr.'s appt (the American Dr) did not have a good prognosis. He said that instead of her eye having cleared up some it was actually worse than yesterday. He referred us to the eye specialist that is Albanian. His fear was that she had a detached retina - which will cause blindness if not dealt with right away.
The Albanian Dr. was very good and competent (it seemed to us). He looked at her eye with up to date machines and also did an ultrasound. He saw that the eye had actually been punctured by the stick. He also saw a little bit of the retina (very small amount) detached in the back of the eye. His main concern was that she would get an infection in the eye because of the stick entering the eye itself. He recommended 10 days of intravenous antibiotic therapy and a daily appt. with him to make sure that as the inflammation goes down the retina will reattach itself. He says that he is confident that it will. We are at this point looking for the antibiotics that he prescribed. He said that we could check her into the hospital for 10 days, but the hospitals in Albania are not a really safe or clean place. We are looking to get the medicine and have the clinic here start the antibiotics. Then, because I was an RN in my earlier days, I could give them to her at home.
We will also take each days appt's and see if there is any cause for us to think she is not healing. If so, we will have to drive down to Greece for an emergency surgery. She can not fly with a hole in her eye.
Praise God that her pain is reduced at this time.
